Gate Repair in Sherman Oaks, CA

We have been repairing and building gates across Sherman Oaks and the San Fernando Valley since 2010. Driveway gates on the streets south of Ventura, sliding gates at apartment buildings along Sepulveda, HOA and multi-unit access gates throughout the area. Most of that is repair work on systems running for years; the rest is new installation from the columns up.

Common Failures

The Calls We Get Most in Sherman Oaks

Two failures account for most emergency calls: the gate will not open, or it will not close. A gate stuck open is a security problem; a gate stuck closed means nobody gets in or out.

The usual causes:

  • Gate stuck halfway through its travel
  • Operator motor failed or will not start
  • Drive chain snapped or jumped its sprocket
  • Gate off its track
  • Remote or keypad not responding
  • Grinding, clicking or squealing during travel

Our service vehicles carry commonly needed gate hardware, welding equipment and operator parts, so many repairs can be completed without a separate return visit.

Operators & Automation

Gate Motor, Operator and Automation Repair

The operator is one of the most common sources of automatic-gate problems, but a motor that will not run does not automatically mean the operator needs replacement. It can mean a burned-out motor, but it can equally mean a failed capacitor, a tripped limit switch, a control board fault, a dead battery backup, or a binding gate putting the motor under load it was never meant to carry.

We diagnose before we quote, and if the operator is repairable we repair it. Replacing a motor on a gate that is dragging buys you the same failure a year later.

We service slide, swing-arm, articulated-arm, overhead and barrier operators, plus commercial-duty motors on apartment and industrial gates.

On an automatic gate, repeat failures can happen when one part is adjusted to compensate for a problem somewhere else — force settings turned up to push a binding gate, or limit switches moved to hide a gate that is out of square.

We set force and speed to where they should be, align and test safety sensors, check loop detectors and edge sensors, and confirm the gate reverses when it should. A gate that closes reliably but will not stop for an obstruction is not a working gate.

We also install and repair access control, intercoms and keypads, including DoorBird and DoorKing entry hardware.

Structure & Fabrication

Sliding, Iron and Metal Gate Repair

Sliding gates fail at the bottom. The track collects grit, the rollers wear flat, and the gate starts to drag.

We replace rollers and wheels, straighten and re-set track, weld reinforcement into sagging frames, re-align the gate square, and reset the operator to the corrected geometry.

Iron and steel gates fail structurally rather than electrically: welds crack at the hinge side where the load concentrates, frames sag until the gate stops meeting its latch, hinges tear out of a column, and vehicle impact bends a frame that then binds against the post.

This is fabrication work, not parts replacement, and it is done on site: cutting out failed welds and re-welding, adding gussets where the original build was under-specified, straightening bent frames, re-hanging gates on new hinges, and priming and painting the repaired sections in-house so the finish matches. Powder coating, when a gate needs it, goes to a specialist.

We work in iron, steel, aluminum and wood, and we fabricate to match an existing gate rather than replacing a pair because one is damaged.

New Gate Installation and Complete Driveway Builds

We coordinate the gate, columns, concrete, fabrication, operator and access-control portions as one project, so the components are designed to work together. Priming and painting are done in-house.

Handled separately, a gate can end up hung on columns that were never built to carry its weight, or an operator left fighting a gate that was never squared to its opening.

We install sliding, swing, cantilever, bi-fold and pedestrian gates, plus matching fencing in iron, metal, wood and aluminum. Recent driveway and gate projects are in our project gallery.

Emergency & Maintenance

Emergency Gate Repair and Preventative Maintenance

We answer 24/7 through our emergency dispatch. A gate stuck open, a gate blocking a driveway, collision damage or a failed operator on a building’s only access point are the calls we prioritize.

Most operator failures are the end of a slow mechanical problem, not a sudden electrical one.

  • Full system inspection
  • Limit switch adjustment
  • Force and speed calibration
  • Chain tensioning and hinge lubrication
  • Roller and track inspection
  • Safety device and sensor testing
  • Electrical and control board inspection

Maintenance frequency depends on the system, manufacturer guidance and daily cycle count. Higher-use apartment, HOA and commercial gates generally require more frequent inspection than low-cycle residential systems.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

My gate motor stopped working. Does it need replacing?

Often not. A motor that will not run can mean a failed capacitor, a limit switch out of position, a control board fault, a dead backup battery, or a gate binding badly enough to stall the motor. We diagnose the cause before recommending replacement, because replacing a motor on a gate that is dragging just repeats the failure.

Why does my gate reverse before it closes?

Usually safety sensor misalignment, force settings, or a mechanical obstruction the operator is reading as an impact — commonly worn rollers creating enough drag that the operator thinks it has hit something.

Can you repair a wrought iron gate, or do I need a new one?

Often, yes. Many wrought iron gate problems can be repaired without replacing the entire gate. Cracked welds, sagging frames, torn-out hinges and impact damage are all fixed on site by cutting out and re-welding, adding reinforcement, and re-hanging. We prime and paint the repaired area in-house.

Do you build the columns and walls, or just the gate?

Both. We handle the columns, concrete, stucco walls, the gate, the operator and the intercom as one coordinated project.

How quickly can someone come out?

We answer 24/7 through our emergency dispatch. Call (888) 261-9976 and we will tell you what the current queue looks like.

What areas of Sherman Oaks do you cover?

All of it, residential and commercial, and we have worked throughout the neighborhood since 2010.

Customer Reviews

In our customers’ own words.

Tal and his team are the only gate vendors I trust with my Los Angeles properties. They are consistently punctual, exceptionally knowledgeable, and deliver flawless results on every project. Having partnered with them on numerous properties, I highly recommend their services and would look nowhere else for garage and/or gate door needs.

Steve Ackles

Our garage door was slamming shut, which sounded dangerous. The team came out and adjusted the down-force settings and replaced a faulty spring. It now stops exactly where it should, and it’s much safer for our kids and pets. Thank you for the quick, effective, and very professional service.

Arthur Peterson

I was referred to Tal and I’m so glad I was. He is fair and his work is wonderful. We had our driveway widen and new concrete installed along with a new composite wood gate and two pedestrian gates made of composite wood which he makes all in house. With any repairs or new builds or remodels Tal will always be our first choice. His work is top tier and his crew is great too. He is transparent and will work with your budget. You wouldn’t be disappointed.

Auzsa Woods

Tal had a beautiful electric gate put up and I have never had a problem in over 3 years. He completed maintenance on my gate and garage door and has saved me a few thousand dollars. This company is legit and they will always be the one I call. Thanks again Tal awesome work!!!!
